Sammamish Chinese Academy (SCA) was founded in 1999 to provide Chinese lessons for children ages 4 and up in the Issaquah & Sammamish plateau area. Our mission is to teach the Chinese language, and to promote the understanding and appreciation of the Chinese culture. We have been offering full-day summer enrichment program for the past seven years! Our summer program is specially designed to provide children with intensive Chinese language lessons, enrichment programs (reading, math, character training, etc.), and many other fun-filled indoor and outdoor activities.
The goal and focus of this summer is to help students increase their vocabulary through theme studies, such as numbers, people, animals, food, school, sports, holidays, shopping, famous landmarks, geography, history, and culture. Three levels of Chinese language classes will be offered this summer: In the beginning level, students will focus primarily on speaking and recognizing Chinese characters by means of pictures, rhymes/poems, songs, games, and crafts. In the intermediate level, students will learn not only to read and write Chinese characters, but also to use characters in phrases and sentences by means of flash cards, stories, poems, and games. In the advanced level, students will learn and expand their vocabulary by means of sight reading, narration and composition exercises.
This summer, we will again have the pleasure of raising silkworms! Each student will have his/her own silkworm to care for as a pet while observing the different stages of growth. Students will love watching and learning all about the science of silkworms, and their role in Chinese culture and history.
We provide enrichment reading, math, and character training programs, which are tailored to the individual needs of each student. There will be ten one-week sessions (I to X) of varies programs and schedules for you to choose from. We have three different schedules: morning only (9:00 to 12:00), all-day (9:00 to 3:00) and extended (8:00 to 6:00). For sessions I-III, V-X, Chinese language classes are offered in the morning, and math, reading, & other fun-filled programs are offered in the afternoon. For Session IV, Vocational Bible School (VBS) is offered by the host church in the morning, Chinese program is offered in the afternoon. Your child can choose to come to VBS in the morning, or to Chinese program in the afternoon or come to both. Two week-long (5-day) chess camps and four week-long (5-day) art workshops will also be offered. Our very popular outdoor activities, strawberry picking and blueberry picking, will be included in our summer program as well. Yes, summer means fun, and our summer program means even more fun! We are confident that your child will discover that learning Chinese at SCA is a splash!
